The popularity of herbal medicine has exploded during the past decade, with herbal remedies becoming increasingly available in such conventional outlets as drugstores and even supermarkets. Prescription for Herbal Healing brings to herbal medicine the same in-depth, easy-to-understand information and accessible style that Prescription for Nutritional Healing successfully brought to diet and nutritional supplements.

This book is divided into three parts for easy reference. Part I discusses the basic principles of herbal medicine and outlines the properties and characteristics of some one hundred sixty single herbs and sixty herbal combination formulas. Part II describes more than one hundred fifty common disorders, conveniently arranged in alphabetical order from acne to yeast infection, and names the herbal therapies that can be used in the treatment of those conditions. Part III is a guide to using various kinds of herbal and other alternative therapies. In addition, it includes self-diagnostic tests and boxed insets throughout, which offer detailed information on a wide variety of topics.

Complete coverage of Chinese and Ayurvedic herbs make this volume entirely comprehensive, and thorough scientific references lend it an authority not found in any other herbal book. Prescription for Herbal Healing is the definitive herbal resource and is a necessity for any health-conscious consumer.

Did you know? Plain old tea is wonderfully healthy! In this special report, you'll learn some amazing things about tea...

Over the past thirty years or so, numerous scientific research studies done in a variety of different parts of the world - with thousands of both human and animal subjects - are showing results which suggest that tea can:

* Help reduce obesity and body fat
* Reduce LDL, or "bad" cholesterol levels
* Improve the body's circulation and blood vessel health
* Improve bone density
* Fight and prevent a variety of cancers
* Boost the body's immune system and resistance to diseases, possibly even HIV
* Reduce the risk of heart attacks and other cardiovascular related diseases and health problems
* Relieve, reduce, or prevent inflammatory problems such as rheumatoid arthritis
* Prevent kidney stones
* Improve teeth strength and health
* Fight and prevent oral diseases
* Reduce stress hormone levels
* Increase the life span of people who have had a heart attack

When most people hear talk of the health benefits of tea, they're usually hearing about green tea. What many don't know however, is that regular black tea has many health properties of it's own too.

Prescription or Poison?: The Benefits and Dangers of Herbal Remedies
by: Amitava Dasgupta
publisher: Hunter House, published: 2010-06-08
EAN: 9780897935500
sales rank: 1243363

The widely used herbal antidepressant kava is damaging to the liver. Pregnant women should avoid most herbal remedies because of pesticides and preservatives required in the growth and storage of the herbs. Most ayurvedic medicines contain unacceptable levels of lead and other heavy metals. St. John's Wort could complicate any chronic medical condition. Many people see herbal remedies as "natural" and therefore safe, but in Prescription or Poison? Dr. Amitava Dasgupta explains that one of his first pharmacology professors taught him that "medicine" is just another word for "poison" and all medicines of any kind should be treated with great caution. This book, written for the layperson but based on solid science and research, explains how toxic many alternative remedies can be, alone or in combination with widely prescribed drug treatments. He includes detailed information on the proper use of alternative medicines and their history of good results, while also cautioning readers in this wake-up call about the casual, often uninformed, and sometimes damaging use of alternative remedies.

What Are The Best Natural Herbs for Anxiety?

There are a number of natural herbs for anxiety, some of which have been shown to be quite effective as an alternative to prescription medications. Herbal remedies for anxiety offer a safe solution without the danger of side effects common to many pharmaceutical drugs.

Although antidepressants are some of the most popular and prescribed meds, they are not always the best solution for anxiety, depression and related mood disorders. Rather than treating the problem at its root, these drugs mask the problem. This can help improve your mood and even you out temporarily, but as soon as you stop taking these medications, your anxiety will return.

Further, prescription anxiety treatments can cause some very serious adverse reactions. In addition to the side effects common to many drugs such as headache, stomach upset and fatigue, they can cause insomnia, sexual problems, abnormal bleeding, manic episodes and seizures. Antidepressants can even worsen the problem to an extreme in some cases, possibly increasing suicidal tendencies.

Although the more serious health issues are rare, they are still something to be concerned with, which is why more and more people are turning to herbal remedies for anxiety. There are many herbs that have been used for centuries to treat anxiety, depression, stress as well as a host of other health conditions. Because of the nutrients they contain, they can not only deal with the issue at its source, but also promote general health and wellness. So the benefit of natural herbs for anxiety are two-fold.

Let's take a look at some of the more popular anxiety herbs:

Ginkgo Biloba is one of the oldest herbal medicines, and is a popular ingredient in many brain health supplements. The extract increases the flow of oxygen to the brain which can reduce stress and anxiety as well as promote a general feeling of wellness.

Bacopin is a small, lesser known herb native to tropical regions. It has been shown in numerous studies to relieve anxiety, depression and related disorders.

Chamomile, most commonly used in teas and herbal baths, acts as a tonic with tranquilizing properties similar to Valium and can reduce stress chemicals within the brain.

Rhodiola, also known as roseroot has various anti-stress and anti-anxiety capabilities.

Passion Flower acts as a natural sedative, akin to chamomile that can help treat general anxiety and restlessness.

All of these natural herbs for anxiety can be found as single ingredient supplements, or in more comprehensive formulas that include herbal extracts, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that can work synergistically to alleviate anxiety and stress. Different combinations work for different people, so it's usually a matter of trial and error to determine what works best for you.

Herbal remedies for anxiety can be an effective natural treatment, but make sure you consult your physician before you begin supplementation. Your doctor will help you decide if herbs for anxiety are right for you, or if prescription medications make more sense.
